Product Designer

Permanent employee, Full-time · Ireland, Dublin, Remote (Ireland, UK, Europe)

The mission if you choose to accept it

We’re building the future of restaurant management.

Nory is the #1 operating system for multi-site restaurants and bars. Join us on our mission to help the hospitality industry double their profitability, reduce their carbon footprint and be able to offer better working environments for their teams.

Our CEO Conor founded and scaled Mad Egg, one of the fastest growing restaurant groups in Ireland. Having felt the pain of hacking together a mix of “market leading” restaurant management systems, spreadsheets and paper print-outs, he set out to build the solution he wished he had from day one: Nory.

Today, thousands of users at hundreds of restaurants and bars across Ireland and the UK use Nory every day - and we’re just getting started.

We are looking for a versatile and resourceful Product Designer to join our Performance Management team and help take it to the next level.

Nory’s Performance Management product helps our customers ensure their businesses are performing at their best. Restaurant teams use our web and mobile apps to monitor their business performance and forecast their demand. This helps them make good decisions quickly, such as efficient scheduling and ordering for minimum waste and consistent margins.

What you’ll be doing

Product Designers at Nory never have to ask to be included in product decisions or justify the value of good design. They’re expected to use curiosity and empathy to deepen their understanding of our industry and the problems hospitality professionals grapple with every day – and then help us solve those problems with good design.

This role will suit a Product Designer who strives to ensure we always solve the right problems and understands that Nory user and customer experience stretches far beyond the surface of our products.

You will literally design the product – apply your understanding of our customers, their industry and digital design to solve real problems for our customers every day.

Here are some examples of what you’ll be helping us with:

  • Working through customer problems from the very beginning through launch and multiple iterations. This isn’t a job where designers receive requirements, then knock out UI prototypes and move on to the next thing.

  • Acting as a leader on your team. At Nory, designers don’t “hand over” work to be built and launched. Instead, the team collaborates and iterates towards success. You’ll be speaking to users, presenting and debating design with your cross-functional peers and we will expect you to be comfortable doing that.

  • Deepening our understanding of our users and customers, and sharing this information with the wider Nory team.

  • Ensuring that what you’ve designed is built to the highest standard. We ship software, not Figma files.

What a good fit looks like:

  • You understand that everyone’s a designer. Our role as product designers is to facilitate user- and customer-centric decisions, and our success is measured by business impact, not pixel-perfect prototypes.

  • You’re a big picture thinker who executes quickly. We move fast, but do so with a direction in mind. We deal with uncertainty and adapt in the face of new information. We always have an opinion on what’s next, and why. You embrace opportunities to leave your comfort zone and learn what it takes to get the job done.

  • You’re energised and motivated by business impact. We think of shipping a solution as the beginning of the journey, not the end. You

  • You have experience. You an expert understanding of the foundations of digital product design, from problem solving to fine UI details – and have shipped digital products, preferably at a SaaS start-up / scale-up during a phase of rapid growth. Transferable experience with hospitality services, POS/inventory systems or e-commerce is a plus.

  • You can adult. You can manage your time, set daily and weekly goals for yourself and your team. You take responsibility for your work and close open loops. You speak up, ask questions, can give and receive feedback. You know your boundaries and respect those of others. You work hard during reasonable hours so you can switch off at the end of the day - we don’t believe in “hero culture” and encourage a healthy work-life balance.

What you can expect:

This is a rare opportunity to join a healthy, fast-growing start-up. Our product is solving real problems for the hospitality industry and can barely keep up with the increasing demand. The Nory team is currently ~30 strong and consists of hospitality industry experts as well as designers and engineers with roots at companies such as Glofox, Intercom, Pointy and Etsy.

We have lots to do and great ambitions, and we take good care of our people:

  • A competitive salary

  • 35 days of paid leave per year (25 holidays + 10 flexible bank holidays)

  • Health Insurance

  • Pension

  • Stock options
